Frequently asked questions
Common questions before you book
From £660 inc. VAT for a standard consumer unit replacement, including RCBO protection on every circuit, built-in Surge Protection (SPD), full testing, building control notification, and certification. Final price depends on circuit count and whether any rewiring is needed.
Most homes are done in a single visit, typically 4–6 hours, including testing and certification. Power is off for that window, which we confirm with you in advance.
No — consumer unit replacement must be carried out by a qualified, registered electrician and certified to BS 7671. It also needs to be notified to building control, which we handle for you.
Yes, in most cases. We replace the consumer unit itself and test all existing circuits — full rewiring is only needed if testing finds unsafe existing cabling.
Not always required, but an outdated fuse box is a common reason for a failed EICR during conveyancing, so many sellers replace it to avoid delays.
Yes — "fuse box" is the older term for what's now called a consumer unit. Modern consumer units use RCBO circuit breakers instead of rewireable fuses.
Yes, your electricity supply must be switched off during the work — usually for 4 to 6 hours. We'll confirm this timing with you in advance so you can plan around it.
Common signs include a fuse box with old rewireable fuses, frequent tripping, no RCD protection, or a fuse box flagged as unsatisfactory on an EICR. Properties over 30 years old with the original fuse box should be assessed.
