Frequently asked questions
Common questions before you book
A tripping breaker usually means a circuit is overloaded, there's a fault in an appliance, or there's a wiring issue such as a loose connection or damaged cable. Repeatedly resetting it without diagnosing the cause can allow the underlying fault to get worse.
Cost depends on how straightforward the fault is to trace. We provide a fixed diagnostic price before starting, with clear costs for any repair work identified.
Many faults are traced and fixed within an hour or two. More complex or intermittent faults, especially in older wiring, can take longer to isolate — we'll always explain what to expect once we've assessed it.
It can be. A tripping RCD or breaker is often protecting you from a genuine fault, such as a short circuit or earth leakage. It shouldn't be ignored or repeatedly reset without investigation.
Intermittent faults are often caused by loose connections, damaged cabling, or a faulty appliance that only causes a problem under certain conditions, such as heat or vibration — these can be trickier to trace and may need more thorough testing.
In most cases, yes. Once the fault is diagnosed, straightforward repairs are usually completed during the same appointment. More complex remedial work is quoted separately.
No, we don't charge a call-out fee on booked appointments — you pay a fixed diagnostic price and, if needed, a clear quote for repair.
Fault finding investigates a specific existing problem — such as a trip, power loss, or flickering lights. An EICR is a full, planned inspection of the entire electrical installation, usually for compliance or peace of mind, whether or not a fault is present.
It's fine to reset a breaker once. If it trips again, that's a sign of a genuine fault, and repeated resetting without diagnosis can be unsafe — that's when it's time to call a qualified electrician.
Yes, we provide 24/7 emergency response for urgent electrical faults across Nottingham and the East Midlands, alongside scheduled non-urgent appointments.
