A fire alarm is a legal instrument as much as a safety one. If the wrong category of system is installed, or the right one is installed and never properly certified, the building fails its fire risk assessment regardless of how much equipment is fixed to the walls. That responsibility sits with the Responsible Person under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, not with whoever fitted it. Urgent Electrical Services designs, installs and certifies fire alarm systems across Nottingham and the East Midlands, specified to BS 5839 and driven by your fire risk assessment rather than a stock package. For commercial premises, that means establishing the correct category under BS 5839-1 first — whether the system protects life throughout the building, covers escape routes only, or extends to property protection — before any equipment is chosen. For flats, houses in multiple occupation and rented homes, we work to the BS 5839-6 grades and LD categories your local authority or licensing scheme requires. We install conventional systems where zoning is straightforward, and addressable systems where the panel needs to identify the exact device in alarm. In a large or subdivided building, that difference decides whether a fault takes ten minutes to find or half a day, and we will tell you plainly which your premises genuinely justifies. Detection is matched to each space. Optical, heat and multi-sensor detectors suit different rooms, and the commonest cause of nuisance activation is the wrong type fitted in a kitchen, plant room or dusty store. Sounders, beacons and manual call points are positioned to meet audibility and escape route requirements. Fire systems rarely stand alone. We interface panels with Emergency Lighting so escape routes stay lit when the supply fails, and with Access Control Installation where locked doors must release automatically on activation. Every installation is commissioned, certified and handed over with a logbook. We also provide Fire Alarm Inspection and Testing, since BS 5839 requires periodic servicing for a system to remain compliant.
